At the age of 5 she took piano lessons from her father and within a few short years was performing complex classical compositions written by the masters for family and friends on weekends. She continued well into her teens until other interests took over her life. And slowly the piano faded into the background, though it was never entirely forgotten.Years later, as America was dealing with the aftermath of the horrors of 9/11, Stefanie (as well as countless others around the globe) sought to regain some sense of balance and inner peace. In her search for a refuge from the painful realities, she rediscovered the music that had lain dormant within her for so long. Deeply moved by the loss of a family friend at ground zero, she composed her first song titled Never Got To Say Goodbye. Alex Stangl had tasted some musical success in the mid-80s with his band Bamboo, which in 1985 released the album Stop All Distractions with Capitol/EMI of Canada. The single from the album, Come Day O' Night Eh!, was a moderate summer hit that year. The song was later released again in 1999 on the Pure Canadian - Retro 80s compilation CD also released by Capitol/EMI of Canada. Between late 2003 and mid 2004 the duo co-wrote over an album's worth of material. The songs have been widely heard and heralded across the internet.
